JONATHAN PAINE
5th Generation
Jonathan Paine, son of Joseph and Patience Paine, of Harwich, married Mercy Doane, of
Eastham, daughter of Nathaniel Doane, Feb. 1, 1732-3, where he located. Further of him but
very little is known. It is thought his widow married Jonathan Sparrow.
The book, History of Gorham, Maine page 703, indicates "this Thomas Paine was
probably a son of Jonathan Paine, who was drowned at Casco in 1762, and was a descendant
of Thomas and Mary (Snow) Paine of Eastham".

Thomas Paine was born February 2, 1756 at Truro, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, died
July 11, 1847 at Pownal Township, Cumberland County, Maine, married December 6, 1781, at
Portland, Cumberland County, District of Maine to Anna Haskell, born in 1760 at Gorham,
Cumberland County, District of Maine, died September 23, 1854 at Pownal Township,
Cumberland County, Maine.
NOTE: At this time it is believed that this Thomas Paine was the son of Jonathan and
Mercy (Doane) Paine listed in the Paine Family Records on page 186 #91 as further of him
very little was known, which could indicate this Thomas was born after that. Shown in the
book History of Gorham, Maine page 703, it indicates this Thomas Paine was probably a son
of Jonathan Paine, who was drowned at Casco in 1762, and was a descendant of Thomas and
Mary (Snow) Paine of Eastham. Children of Thomas and Anna Paine were:
